@ 9:00 PM :: 团契集体灵修时刻 - 约翰福音 第六章! by LSTQ 2 shared

On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

“You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!” (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)

[John 6:60-71]

although this passage did not implicitly say this, but what i can learn from this passage is that many people were happily watching Jesus perform miracles and had for a moment believed that Jesus is God and the Messiah.. but when Jesus laid out the conditions (that God must enable them to believe), they left.. and i relate it to ourselves - we have seen the miracles (think good grades, decent life, no N. Korean neighbour), and we believed the good stuff and the heaps of benefits that come out "simply believing".. but what about what we needed to do?? like taking up our cross and following Jesus, like LOVING people unconditionally, like keeping ourselves (our tongue and our minds) in tight check to prevent ourselves from being tainted..

we shrug at these duties thinking we can "start doing them tomorrow".. how sad it was if God said the same thing to us of our salvation..

“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” [John 6:35]

This is (aptly and coincidentally) the verse of the day, and it's remarkable because it says "whoever COMES TO ME .."... what it means is that we have to ASK GOD.. while God puts his arm forward to invite, we have to respond..

and this response does not only apply to accepting Christ as our God.. but in everyday, to accept the invitation to let him lead your life in the most meaningful way possible.. and to be amazed by the things God can do.. all we need is to RSVP to that invitation.. and to tell God that we want Him and we need Him..
