Often, we try to get right with God by works, whatever we think we are doing right, we think it gets us right with God.. But we forget that God looks in our heart, whether we are born again.. It is so startling that Christ said that we must be born again, where our hearts are changed, where our hearts fully trust that Christ is both our Saviour and our Lord. And indeed we only get right with God by faith, like Abraham who believed and was credited with rightneousness by faith- the way God actually measures us. How this is so against the grain of worldly scales by which we are often measured!

On an unrelated note regarding "our Saviour and our Lord", it is interesting how John Piper espoused the idea of "half a Christ".. meaning we like to take the Saviour part of Christ, but not the Lord part.. We are divided, we want the world and our salvation.. And that "half a Christ" he said is the Christ of our imagination, not the Christ of the Bible, comparing this idea to the notion of "I want your salvation work but i don't want your Lordship over my life, i don't want/need you counsel Jesus"..

haha.. that is just so true!! like the song tells us to "seek God's face and not only God's hands".. we should learn to seek to know God and not to ask God to serve us in our ways..
