Verse Of The Day:
"Be still, and know that I am God"... (Psalm 46:10) [NIV] Verse Of The Day loading... Saturday, April 30, 2011 Often times we stumble upon legalism and other things in our walk that confuses us in our walk with God, we forget what our faith is truly about.. Maybe this can turn into a periodic column lol... Hope this personal sharing will help and remind us and even myself... When we've been close to God Problem: we sometimes erroneously tell ourselves "ok, time for computer, or TV, or other things. sure we need God every moment but i've done my QT and i want some fun for a while" or maybe "My walk is quite good, I can cruise along daily life for the next few days and come back to Him again" Reminder: our faith is not about doing enough of "God-time" and that's it. there can never be enough, and we need and thank God for times of rest and leisure and remember we NEVER EVER DESERVED such grace, and God only is our satisfaction. By saying the above things, we act as if we have attained a certain level. We need to be constantly discontented, on the contrary, about our own spiritual walk daily. Even the apostle Paul said "Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own." Do our hearts realise that Christ went through an incomparable ordeal to make us His own? Problem: We think that we've not been obedient enough. Reminder: Don't be too bogged down by obedience to God and make it our God, rather than seeking God. Look at Jesus, His life, the person and beauty of Christ. Everything in Christian obedience is the outpouring of a heart so changed and transformed by God. And don't fret, God takes His time to build us up and change us, it is not "magic". Problem: We try to rely on our strengths in service or even in deeds to be on God's good books. Reminder: There is nothing we give God that is not ours, He does not need our service. The Bible says that we were born into this world empty handed so all that we offer to the Lord has been supplied by Him alone, so that no one may boast. Look instead to our hearts. If anything, we can serve Him more and more by enjoying Him, His graces, His providence, His mercy, His heavenly riches (not Earthly). When we've been distant Problem: Maybe we've regressed into our old ways by just drifting along life and we realise it but we're trying to turn back to God but do things the wrong way. Reminder: The first thing that needs to change is our heart, not our actions, not our thoughts, but to ask God to so change it and yield it, for evil comes out of our hearts and no matter how we try to change our actions or thoughts, the heart it what matters and God looks at our hearts. And God will guide those who truly seek His counsel because He loves His children and will not forsake them. So do we know of this evil heart that we need God to transform and sanctify every day, or are they so hard that we do not even see or realise it? Problem: We think that we can cruise along and do church, and that obedience to God from the heart and just saying we believe, going to church and have no emotional resonance with God's glory in the world and in our lives and in Christ. Reminder: God alone determines our span on this Earth and then we're into eternity. Don't be decieved by Satan's lies that we can always turn to God and change our ways tomorrow, maybe only on our death beds. Don't bet on that, every day that we still experience on this Earth is God's mercy and grace, don't abuse that grace. In summation, only God can give us richness in times of spiritual dryness and even fullness, and let's always humble ourselves before God and remember we are innately empty- we have nothing from ourselves which we can offer God. But that God looks to our hearts and, God willing, faith, hope, love and joy will flow out of and even into these hearts of ours.. :)
