Pastor John's sermon "Battling the Unbelief of a Haughty Spirit" outlines the biblical bases for battling the unbelief in pride. In wanting to be made much of, boasting about tomorrow, even being anxious, we sin in our pride. It is a personal battle even to myself, it is my/our nature to just love human praise, to love that people think of us in so and so ways. But it is such a great hindrance to worshipping and treasuring God for who He really is! It is striking that he also mention that we are even prone to want to be made much of in our self-denial! We truly need God to guard us from pride everyday in turning and believing His words about pride in our lives, and to marvel at His sufficiency, His infinite glory, that really really silences the pride in ourselves! Truly truly, who are we that God is even mindful of us!
