O give me Samuel's ear,
The open ear, O Lord,
Alive and quick to hear
Each whisper of Thy Word,
Like him to answer at Thy call,
And to obey Thee first of all.

This poem is from Bill Hybel's book, called "The Power of a Whisper", and it stems from the prophet Samuel who listened attentively to the Lord, as recorded in 1 Samuel chapter 3. In it, God called out to Samuel 3 times without him knowing that it has been God himself!! At least, he realised that it was God and he responded and God spoke to him. It made me wonder how often God wanted to call out to us, but we were too busy running towards the world and ignored God in the process...

Dear God, I pray that you would give us Samuel's ear so that we would be able to discern and to be attentive to your voice speaking to us. Amen.
