Verse Of The Day:
"Be still, and know that I am God"... (Psalm 46:10) [NIV] Verse Of The Day loading... Saturday, August 18, 2012 Calvary is a profound and mysterious decision Jesus Christ chose out of love. He would rather bear the pain and shame of the cross than let us suffer an eternity of unrest and gnashing of teeth in the place where God dwells not... It is interesting that many times we can will ourselves to do things out of goodwill for others, it can even be the case we do so because we want people to think a certain way of us. It is easy to change outward behaviors to the point where even we ourselves might choose to martyr ourselves. But the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 13:3, “If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.” So John Piper says "you can do some remarkable external acts of sacrifice and not have love" and even "take a grenade (blast) for your friends and still be called unloving". But the love of Christ was not outward; He did not do it so that people would remember Him a martyr or saint. Not only was He slain, the crowd badly wanted Him to be crucified and throughout history many people have rejected Him. It takes a much deeper more profound love to do what He did, even the Apostle Peter who initially said he would die with Christ rejected Him thrice. When we go out of our way to love people in His example as we profess, what motivates our hearts? Are we trying to be remembered for something? Or do we realise that loving people the way Christ did and still does cannot be done on our own accord by outward behavioral change but only when Christ dwells in us and works in our hearts to give ourselves to others, even in the face of ridicule, rejection and enmity.
